DIY Candle Making- Reusing Candles

  • Leftover Candlewax
  • Candle vessel/jar
  • Pre-waxed wick
  • Pouring Pot

I’ve been burning B&BW candles all winter. I prune myself in bathtubs and light candles in winter.

According the candle safety guidelines, you’re not supposed to burn a candle all the way down; you should stop at 1/2 in. But for a 3-wick BBW candle, 1/2 inch is a pretty decent amount of wax. It bummed me out to see how much I was wasting.

3wickcandle1So instead of throwing out the jar, I decided to reuse the leftover wax and move it to a smaller vessel, leaving the sturdy jar free for all kinds of uses. (Pinterest had tons of ideas for reusing these jars)

I honestly take on these DIY projects whenever I’m mildly stressed or burnt out; it distracts me from how grim the weather is. (it’s snowing cats and dogs and reindeers)

mycandle11. Scrape out chunks of leftover wax from the 3-wick BBW jars. (This is easier if you leave them in the fridge overnight. The frozen wax will have fissures running through its body; all you have to do is insert your butter knife into the cracks)

These were chunks of BBW’s “Lavender” and “Midnight Blue Citrus.” This is enough wax to glean one small candle.

mycandle2mycandle42. Prepare the cup. Press a small dollop of all-purpose cement/glue on the bottom of the wick and press it gently onto the bottom of the cup. Make sure the wick is placed at the center of the cup.

I bought the cute cup from Anthropologie, the “ETCHED BANDS HURRICANE.” It was $3.57 each on sale.

Wick, I bought on amazon. I’d recommend buying something else. These were too wishy-washy; they had no back bone, too feeble.

mycandle3mycandle63. Melt the wax by double boiling. This was much like melting chocolate.

You fill a pot with water and boil the water. Rest the pouring pot in the boiling water and melt the wax. Avoid direct heat. Putting pan to stove may be too hot for the wax.

Pot was also bought on amazon.

mycandle54. Let the wax melt in low heat until it’s clear.

Then pour it gently into the prepared cup.

mycandle75. Make sure the prewaxed wick stands straight in the middle. Use pens to prop it up if necessary.

It’s okay if the wick is too long; you’ll have to trim it anyhow.

mycandle86. Let it stand.

The leftover wax from my two candles were just enough to fill this cup.

mycandle97. Enjoy. This personally was the perfect size for bath candles. I like lighting this while taking a bath.

The 3-wick jar now may be used to other purposes, such as storing q-tip, candies, hair bands, and other miscellaneous knick-knacks.

Lush Heavy January Hauls

NuriBox1First off, a dear friend sent me a box of goodies from Japan!

T’was technically supposed to be a Christmas present, but with New Years and all, I finally got my hands on it today.

NuriBox2Items included were… :

  • 3 boxes of Shirukotto cotton
  • 1 Japan Lush Intergalactic box
  • 2 Pokemon Terrarium collectible
  • 4 Kororo Fruit jelly
  • 1 Milky taffy bag
  • 1 Lip balm for extra dry lips

I love everything. N knows me so well. I, in turn, sent her a box of Nexxus hair products, Soap&Glory body scrub, an assortment of masks, and brush cleaner.

Lushbogo1My mini Lush bogo deal also arrived!

  • 2 Snow Fairy Jelly Bomb
  • 2 Saucy Snowcake

And this along with…

HubbyGift1… Hubby’s gift of Christmas Bathtime Favorites Box, I’m set on Lush. At least till June, methinks.

candlehaul1Finally, my $10 deal BBW candles arrived. I bought

  • 1 Lavender Marshmallow
  • 1 White Mint Latte

Love the scent of lavender marshmallow but not so much white mint latte. Ironic, because I assumed vice versa.

LUSH BOGO 1+1 deal seems to be still working, so go take a look if you’ve missed out!

Bath&BodyWorks 3 Wick Candle Haul- August 2017

3wickcandle1B&BW recently had a “Buy-Two-Get-Two-Free” promotion.  Plus they had the $10 off $30 deal going on.

I usually don’t go for candles, but well, “Winter is coming” (despite it being August. It gets cold quickly where I live). Figured some scented ambience would be nice.

3wickcandle3I grabbed Eight candles and paid for four. Here’s what I grabbed:

  • Lavender
  • Midnight Blue Citrus
  • Bergamot
  • Rose Water & Ivy
  • Almond
  • Hot Cocoa & Cream
  • Marshmallow Fireside
  • Pumpkin Cupcake

Spent 30 minutes in the store, sniffing candle covers.

3wickcandle2Tried lighting two so far: Lavender & Midnight Blue Citrus.

They have a mild throw but pleasant calming scents. My favorite scents so far are “Hot Cocoa & Cream, Almond, and Midnight Blue Citrus.”

I’ll be looking for this next year 🙂
