Sephora Spring Sale 20% 2019

2019sale_1Here’s our annual April-ish Sephora Beauty Insider Sale. I add “ish” because a good chunk of the sale veers into May.

  • Rouge gets 20% off from “April 26 – May 6”
  • VIB gets 15% off from “May 2 – May 6”
  • Insider gets 10% off from “May 2 – May 6”

Unlimited use in-store and online. (online code: HEYROUGE, for Rouge)

There are some exclusions. No applicable on products from “The Ordinary” or “MAC Viva Glam.” Limit 1 Dyson, 3 Drunk Elephant, 3 Tatcha, 5 Morphe items per transaction.

2019sale_2As usual, the coupon came with fragrance cards.

And of course, on the first day of the sale (April 26th), Rouge members are allowed to bring one other Beauty Insider who will also get 20% off on their purchased items. If this sale had begun just one week earlier, my friend from Korea may have gotten the chance to shop 20% off with me… 😦 Bad timing for us.

Pretty much excited about the sale but disappointed that The Ordinary products will be excluded from this promotion. I’d have liked to stock up on “Buffet” and “Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.”

[Birthday] Hermes – Eau des Merveilles Bleue

hermes6

Price: $110 (= Sephora Price)

This was part of a birthday gift my SO gave to me. I love him!

Ever since I took a whiff of this at a Sephora a year ago I was enamored, and now I get to smell like it everyday. Blue also happens to be my favorite color 🙂

hermes1This Eau de Toilette is about the only woodsy & earthy scent I love. It reminds me of the sea shore, of minerals and sea salt and the ocean.

I usually go for full-on citrus or floral (and super mainstream), something like Atelier Cologne’s Clementine California or Viktor&Rolf’s Flowerbomb (and ..Marc Jacobs Daisy)  but this scent is so clean-cut and fresh that I tend to forget about the amber and patchouli.

hermes2Some fragrances remind me of their separate notes, of how they smell like bergamot and lavender before diving into vanilla, but Merveilles Bleue just is what it is. This may be due to my lack of capacity for discerning notes … but I argue that it also says something about how expertly it was crafted.

hermes3Such a pretty cobalt teal.

hermes4Ingredients list.

hermes5Size: 1.7 oz / 50 ml

Made in France.

hermes7Constellations and then some. The bottle reminds me of those snow globes that sparkle glitter everywhere.

hermes8Or a large drop of jewel.

hermes9Or a galaxy.

hermes10The fragrance is not overwhelming like some scents can be. Light and fresh enough to not cause nausea to the general public, but staying power is decent! Better than JoMalone (which has beautiful scents but lasts about ten to thirty minutes tops on my skin).

This is considered unisex, if you’re into that sort of classification.

B612_20181001_181418_697KakaoTalk_Photo_2018-10-20-23-29-48A practical scent, in the sense I can wear this to literally any occasion whether it be a wedding, a classroom, the workplace, or a night out at the bar. Love.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil – in “Chablis”

Chablis6

Price: $24

(During Sephora Weekly Wow Deal: $10)

I’ve always loved Bite “Meritage” and several of their Amuse Bouche lipsticks, so it’s no surprise the Weekly Wow stopped me in my tracks.

There’s a saying in Korea about how sparrows can never pass by a grain mill without dropping in (totally butchering the translation btw); in this case, the mill is Sephora; the grain is Chablis.

Chablis2The “Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencils” are a mere $10 during the Sephora weekly wow sale, so if you’re looking to add one to your stash, now’s the time.

Chablis3Chablis4As usual, ingredients list.

You receive 0.09 oz (2.52g) of product.

Chablis5Color in Chablis. 98% of product is consisted of natural ingredients.

Bite lip products actually taste good. (The smell…used to be better I think, if you think of the old lipsticks versus the reformulated ones.)

Chablis7Chablis is described as a “soft coral rose,” but I actually found this to be a bright coral. There is definitely some rosiness to it, but it feels more saturated and brighter than what I’d consider a “soft rosy coral.”

Chablis8Skin swatch in natural light. Beautiful deep coral rose.

Shade on the right is “Meritage,” (another winter favorite of mine) for comparison.

Chablis1On balmed bare lips + sunscreen-ed skin. Chablis is a gorgeous color if you’re into bright, rosy corals. This goes on smooth but slightly messy; it slides around so a steady hand is a must.

Finish is satin-matte. Then again, everything feels matte on my dry lips.

Glad I bought it. I should pick up more before the sale ends.

MOSCHINO + SEPHORA Collection (Palette, Highlighter)

moschino1

Price: $48 (Palette) , $22 (Highlighter)

This is a limited edition “MOSCHINO + SEPHORA” collaboration, one I actually missed out on when it first launched months ago.

Thanks to Sephora who brought it back a second time! I finally snagged the two items I really wanted, the palette and the highlighter.

moschino2This is the embodiment of kidult (kid + adult) culture; it has all the makings of a cute toy, but with a collectible twist.

I love the small details such as the “touch me” hole and the Moschino teddy illustrations on the side. Major ToysRUs vibes.

moschino3Just look at this beauty. I’ve no words for it; it speaks for itself. It’s plastic but feels heavy enough, doesn’t look cheap. Perfect as a decoration.

Be still my kid heart.

moschino4This holds 21 shades in mattes, shimmers, and satin finishes.

The inside is part-cardboard, much like limited edition holiday TooFaced palettes that come out every year. I’d have liked this portion to be plastic too, but oh well.

I’m not planning to use any of this by the way. It’s my collectible. Back to the box it goes.

moschino5And this beauty. The highlighter is a two-parter, and holds one part champagne and one part rose-gold powder shimmers.

The colors are very subtle and needs building up to actually show like, say, what a Becca Opal would do for your skin. I like subtlety so this is actually good for me.

moschino6Now some of the cons:

  • Durability: I’ve heard a lot of horror stories of these items coming with at least one shadow smashed, both the palette and the highlighter. It happened to me too, as you can see. Sephora kindly replaced my smashed one with a pristine, intact version, but I’d advise using this at home and not on-the-go.
  • Pigmentation: What little I tried felt decent but this may not please those who are more used to stark pigmentation, like KVD and Viseart. While this does work as decent makeup, it’s more of a collectible item, and I don’t mind that it may work less than what other $40+ or $22+ items would do for me. The packaging alone was worth paying for, but that’s personal preference.

I’m thinking of pressing the smashed extra with some rubbing alcohol and leaving at the office for touch-ups. The mirror is big enough, and the bear’s so cute I’ll be happy just looking at it.

GlamGlow – DreamDuo Mask Review

mask1

Price: $59

(bought during Sephora 20% off, which brought it down to: $47.2)

This was the first GlamGlow product I bought out of my own pocket. I’ve only encountered this brand through samples, subscription DS, and the one cleanser I was gifted a million years ago. It’s pricey. So when I received a sample of DreamDuo, I was all set to use it up and forget about it.

But alas, I really liked it.

mask2This is a two-parter mask. There’s a step 1 and step 2, each of which uses different portions of the mask.

There’s “Dream Serum = Step 1” and “Dream Seal = Step 2.”

mask3Why hello you sexy expensive thing.

mask4Not that big, considering what you paid for.

There’s only 0.68oz (20ml) of each treatment.

mask6Pretty. Very chrome.

mask7DreamDuo is a night treatment.

Step 1: Apply DREAM SERUM (pearl) evenly on clean face and let absorb into skin for about 30 seconds.

Step 2: Follow with DREAM SEAL (gray)

mask8A plastic cover for sanitary reasons.

Left (pearl) is DREAM SERUM, right (gray) is DREAM SEAL. (Don’t know why I’m capitalizing; I’m being led astray by the descriptions on the box.)

mask9DREAMSERUM (pearl) is a melt-in face serum that infuses antiaging antioxidants into the skin, while supercharged essential vitamins support an even, flawless complexion.

DREAMSEAL (gray) is a nourishing moisture boost of hyaluronic acid and mozuku green algae that plumps and recharges skin’s glow.

mask5DREAM SERUM feels like a mildly sticky gel. It glides around but is absorbed pretty quickly. Smells strongly of orange creamsicle and toffee.

DREAM SEAL is tackier, a bit more cream-like than the pearl serum. It takes longer to absorb but once it’s absorbed, my skin doesn’t feel tacky.

The fragrance lingers, so if you’re sensitive to scent, avoid this product. I personally like the creamsicle scent.

mask6My skin remains moisturized and non-dry/non-flaky in the morning now. I do think it’s pricey for what you get, so I may only use this in the harsher winter months where nothing else really helps.

Interestingly enough, this doesn’t feel hydrating upon application. I’m surprised it lasts so well over the night.

PS: This is a treatment by the way, so it wouldn’t really work as a makeup moisturizer. It’s too tacky!

Sephora Hall of Famers Gift 2017 – Exclusive Bite Lipstick

giftedbysephoraSokobabyBlog2Sephora’s known to send out little gifts to its BeautyTalk users. As someone who used to be an avid user, I really appreciated the surprise gifts. T’was one of the many perks of being a Beauty Insider.

Unfortunately (and fortunately!), BeautyTalk is shifting gears to a new platform, which means the old ranking system is phasing out. Which means, good bye to “Hall of Famer.” (HOF)

HOF2As a farewell, Sephora decided to surprise the “HOF” Beauty Insiders with a gift.

They reeeally sprung this on us. Every HOF got a random email informing us that a package was arriving from Sephora. A good majority thought we were hacked. We were quickly assured that this was legit.

HOF3(why I adore Sephora)

HOF4HOF5This cute pouch…

HOF7Held the contents:

  • 3 adorable pins, custom made for HOF rankers.
  • A HOF custom-color lipstick from Bite’s Lip Lab!

HOF6

This beauty. The shade is titled “Hall of Famer,” a nod to the eponymous HOFs.

It’s the same formula as the Amuse Bouche line.

HOF9I’d call this a hot pink + fuchsia mix. (A royal-fuchsia?)

It has the customary Bite scent to it, a fruity tingly scent that screams Bite.

HOF10Buttery smooth. It spreads evenly into a shock of fuchsia goodness.

Beware: it stains quite a bit! Don’t get this on your clothes.

HOF11HOF12

I don’t own many fuchsias/hot pinks, so this was the best I could do in regards to dupes.

From left to right:

  • Bite “Hall of Famer”
  • Nature Republic “Orchid Blossom”
  • Clinique “Punch Pop”
  • Wander Beauty “Vacay”

Wander Beauty “Vacay” was the closest shade I could find in my stash. It’s a beautiful unique hue, especially if you love a zingy fuchsia.

HOF13Thank you Sephora 😀

2016 Sephora Friends & Family Code + Surprise Event

fnf1

Yesterday, I was in my happy place, browsing the numerous aisles of Sephora for the perfect winter mask, when an SA approached me. Mid-conversation, she suddenly leaned forward and in all confidentiality, asked me:

“…would you like to be my friend for today?”

I answered “Yes,” and received this lovely surprise:

fnf2

This was the first time I received a tangible F&F code. This 20% off code is valid Oct 23 through Oct 30th, and is one-time use.

The code has to be provided by a Sephora SA, either through mail or card, and the quantity is supposedly limited, so don’t be too sad if your favorite SA doesn’t offer it; she might’ve just run out. (Do thank the lovely SAs if they’re nice to include you!)

fnf3

There was a special in-store shopping event held from 7pm~9pm on the 23rd, where all buyers with these F&F cards received a cute bag filled with Sephora goodies. Items included were:

  • 1 Sephora sheet mask in “Ginseng”
  • 1 Sephora clear lip gloss
  • 1 Sephora Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover
  • 1 Sephora eyeshadow quad in “Nicole” (beautiful fall colors)
  • 1 Make Up For Ever lipstick in “N9” (so happy! This was my go-to lip last fall)
  • 1 Sephora pencil sharpener

All items I know I’ll use up. (Not sure if all baggies had the same items)

Time frame for the event was a little weird, but this might’ve been due to the limited amount of those baggies.

+ There were also snacks available: Mini Kitkats, caramel apple pops, mini snickers, mini popcorn bags, mini water bottles etc.

fnf4

I ended up purchasing two items:

  • Caudalie SOS Hydration set
  • Ren Glow and Go set

I snagged both sets for $57!

Did you receive a card from your Sephora SA? What will you buy with the 20% off code?

April 2016 Sephora/Lush Mini Haul

sephoralush1My baby haul from Saturday.

Doubt if this qualifies as a haul (the word “haul” sounds so lavish!), but I’m thrilled with everything I got.

sephoralush2My Sephora Haul. I initially went in for the “Sephora in JC Penny: Bite Beauty Event,” one that advertised “expert application & free Bite gift with purchase.” Big fan of Bite Beauty here; I had to go.

originalThis event.

Unfortunately, my SiJCP didn’t receive the free gifts (which turned out to be a beautiful DS Bite Gloss in “Opal”). My SA was phenomenal though, and she made me a cute gift bag with a bunch of generous samples to make up for the missing gloss.

This is what I received:

  • 1 Benefit Boiing Concealer (DS)
  • 2 GlamGlow GravityMud Firming Treatment (foil)
  • 2 Ole Henrickson 3-step (Foil)
  • 1 Sephora Eyeliner Sample in “Flirting Game” (DS)
  • 1 BareMinerals Foundation Sample (DS)
  • 1 Origins Original Skin Retexturing Mask (Foil)

My sole purchase was the Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick in “GingerSnap,” a salmon coral-pink that seems perfect for spring. (I also tried on Rhubarb, Molasses, and Black Truffle. The last one was gorgeous by itself, but upon application turned me into Marilyn Manson.)

sephoralush3I rarely shop in-store, so I was immensely grateful for this pleasant experience. I wish I knew my SA (and her associate’s) name, because they were very kind and helpful! They obviously loved makeup as much as I do, and it was so much fun trying on lipsticks with them.

This was the Sephora in JC Penny in “Briarwood Mall, Ann Arbor.” I’d recommend this location to anyone who happens to be in the area. I’ve only been there twice, but each time was a treat 🙂

Plus, it’s generally less crowded in SiJCPs, and they have kits that regular Sephoras don’t get, so it’s fun to visit both if you have the time.

sephoralush4Now my Lush haul. I bought two masks: “Mask of Magnaminty” and “Cupcake.” I also received two samples: “Grease Lightning” and “Full of Grace.”

Didn’t realize Lush gave samples in-store! I’m glad they do.

I’m already a huge fan of Magnaminty, but the rest are new to me. “Grease Lightning” is fast becoming my favorite spot treatment, usurping Clearogen’s “Acne Lotion-BP” and Boscia’s “Clear Complexion Willow Bark Treatment.” Cupcake is pure delicious when it comes to scent. I’ve yet to try Full of Grace.

sephoralush5This was my first time buying Cupcake. Didn’t realize it needed to be refrigerated.

I bought these masks for my trip to Korea, but now I’m worried the mask won’t last the plane trip (14 hours). It does say “self-preserving,” so if I don’t use up the mask by April 10th, I’ll take it anyhow.

Can’t wait to review all of these goodies :)!

Have you bought anything lately? Would you buy any of these items?

2016 Sephora 15% Sale! What Will You Buy?

sephorasale3Check your mailbox ladies! The biannual Sephora Sale is imminent.

The April sale period will be “April 7th~13, 2016,” lasting a total seven days.

sephorasale1This arrived today. Sephora tends to send out these in batches, so don’t fret if it’s not here yet.

Granted, there’s been cases where Sephora forgot to send out a few, so if your love note is still MIA two days before the sale, do give them a call. (Or use the email code, which they’re sure to send out soon)

sephorasale2VIB Rouge & VIBs get 15% off and BIs get 10%, if what I’m told is correct.

The card is multi-use, so if you forget to buy something crucial your first day, there’s still six more days!

sephorasale4While I adore this gorgeous cherry blossom-esque card, I’m sad we won’t be getting a Sunday brunch event, a closed door event, and sample bags like previous years 😦

This time, the only perks of in-store shopping will be a free tote bag, w/ purchase.

sephorasale5This particular tote bag, it seems. You do get to bring a friend to share the perk, but only on the “First Access” day (4/07, Thursday).

Are you excited for the sale? What will you buy? What will you not buy? Would you like to see some changes in these annual sales? Please do share 🙂
